Actually, I don't hang my hat in alt.sys.pc-clone.dell, have
not bought, am not the original owner of any Dells either.
I do regularly repair and rebuild them though. 

Personally I prefer professionally built systems tailored to
the users' needs thus I am definitely NOT a Dell fan at all,
but the fact remains that they do serve a useful pupose and
it is ludicrous to try and make sweeping presumptions like
"Dells perpetually have a mic recording problem".
