Hello all. I'm pricing out a Dell Inspiron 15 notebook for a friend. They're not going to be using the new machine for gaming or anything extraordinary; just basic stuff like web surfing, e-mail, Microsoft Office, etc. They're going to go with Vista Home Premium, and upgrade to Windows 7 in October when it becomes available. I have a choice between these two processors: Intel® Celeron® 900 (1MB cache/2.20GHz/800Mhz FSB) Intel® Pentium® Dual Core T4200 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/1MB cache) The Dual Core is more money, even though it's a slower clock speed of 2.0GHz. Which one should I go for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Dave

The Dual will format it significantly faster, leaving more time to format additional drives. Thanks! My advise is don't ever consider single core. Like "Dan C" said (quote): Get the Dual Core. Buying a Celeron these days is just... stupid. -- Brian Cryer www.cryer.co.uk/brian

I'll guess that the difference is not great so therefore go for the non-Celeron. Likely your friend will be happier down the road.

I didn't follow the cross posting stuff. I bought a Outlet Dell 15 (1545) the other day and went with a Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 (not Dual Core). I have not heard too many positive things about the Dual Core. I paid $485 for a scratch and dent although the refurbed was about $30- $45 more. I actually bought this for a friend so I have not seen it but he says he did not see any scratches or dents of any type. David
