The agency I worked for was providing cooperative support to the municipal police force of a large Canadian city a number of years ago (1984, I think). While sitting in the CID offices, a call came in from the front desk and was patched through (probably a with a grin from the dispatch sergeant). It was a lady in the city who was concerened about the alien space ships who were shooting laser beams in through her windows at her, her dog and her TV. With a due seriousness and concern, the senior detective asked her if she had any aluminum foil in the house, to which she replied that she had. He then advised her to wrap herself in tinfoil from head to foot to protect herself. Still concerned, but apparently relieved, the lady thanked the policeman and hung up. We continued our discussions for about a half an hour when my colleague said "I can't stand it anymore... I've got to find out what she did" and promptly called one of his mobile units and asked them to swing by the lady's house and see if she was OK. The CID offices exploded into gales of tear-wrenching hysteria when the mobile called in. Apparently the officer knocked on the door and then heard a strange rustling sound. The door opened to a strange sight, indeed. Not only was the lady neatly wrapped head to foot in tin foil, but so was what appeared to be a small toy poodle who was trying to scratch it off. Fighting to maintain his composure, the policeman told her it was OK now, that the alien craft had departed the area and wouldn't be back soon. We went for a beer afterward and re-lived the moment a number of times. Each time it seemed to get funnier, although I couldn't help feeling just a little sorry for the poor, deluded lady. Since then I have heard a number of similar stories, some of which appear to be approaching urban myth. However, I know for sure this one was true - I was there to actually see it unfold. ...Poor lady. -- Burns --------------81CC80499714DD8219B75456 Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="burnsmacdonald.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Burns MacDonald Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="burnsmacdonald.vcf" begin:vcard n:MacDonald;Burns x-mozilla-html:FALSE adr:;;;;;; version:2.1 email;internet:burnsmacdonald@home.com note:Ottawa, Canada x-mozilla-cpt:;-17568 fn:Burns MacDonald end:vcard --------------81CC80499714DD8219B75456--
