Anyone having problems with their dial-up modem under xp-home? I get a 633 device in use or not properly configured error. But have gone over the config with both Gateway and Bellsouth, my dsl provider. Computer system is a gateway P4-1.7ghz I believe the modem works because i can dial using a dialer program (not thru the xp dial up) and it rings and gets thru (to my voicemail at work...:) Any suggestions appreciated. John

You DO have your dial-up modem going through a phone filter I hope?

Absolutely. The splitter first, then the filter. Have a phone on it also. It works fine. And the non-internet dialer also works... Earlier versions of Windows had a similar problem of the dialer process
hanging around for some amount of time after use. According to MS this was
to provide faster access if you wanted to use it again. Their fix was to
either kill the process or wait for it to time out.

In my case it's hanging around forever it that's the issue...:). Not seeing a dial up process in the Task Manager. John
