VIRUS ALERT!!! VERY DANGEROUS VIRUS JUST RELEASED!!!! There is a new virus - WOBBLER. It will arrive on e-mail titled CALIFORNIA. IBM and AOL have announced that it is very powerful, more so than Melissa, there is no remedy. It will eat all your information on the hard drive and also destroys Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Do not open anything with this title. Not many People seem to know about this yet so propagate it as fast as possible. If you receive an e-mail titled "Win A Holiday" DO NOT OPEN IT. It will erase everything on your hard drive. Forward this letter out to as many people as you can. This is a new, very malicious virus and not many people know about it. This information was announced from Microsoft. DO NOT OPEN "PRETTY PARK." It is a virus that will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to you in the form of an e-mail from a familiar person. I repeat, DO NOT OPEN. DELETE RIGHT AWAY. It gets into your address book. Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this warning 25 times than not receive it once! -- Charlie crsapp@attglobal.net

From Symantec (Norton) California IBM Hoax The following messages have been sent out by email. They are both copies of the same hoax. This "virus" does not exist. The hoax messages includes the following "warning": Another new virus has been discovered. It arrives in an e-mail titled "California IBM". Microsoft has announced that it is very bad, worse than "Love Letter". There is no remedy or cure. It will consume all the information in the hard drive, and will destroy Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Do not open anything with this title, and pass this message on to your e-mail contacts. Right now not many people know about this, so please pass it on as quickly as possible "Charlie Sapp" <crsapp@attglobal.net> wrote in message news:3a5d0bb6_3@news1.prserv.net... > VIRUS ALERT!!! > VERY DANGEROUS VIRUS JUST RELEASED!!!! > There is a new virus - WOBBLER. also www.ibm.com and www.aol.com had no sign or mention of the virus. Common sense. Hello:
But that begs the question why people create viruses (as opposed to
software that would be truly useful) in the first place.

I think I have an answer. The people that write viruses are for the most part more computer literate than most other people and could and may very well be employed by any of the small or not so small software companies writing code. Here's where the virus part comes in. They need or they just want more attention than they are getting (they are a small fish in a very big pond) Now they write a virus in their spare time and the whole world knows about them, at least indirectly. This does not explain all virus writers, but I am certain it explains some of them. > Hello: > But that begs the question why people create viruses (as opposed to > software that would be truly useful) in the first place. > Bruce D.
