My experience is 100% opposite. I had 3 years old Gateway 2000 486/33 
(gave it to my daughter) and just receintly bought Dell XPS 133.
Several times I called Dell and the maximum waiting time was never
longer than 15 minutes and on several occasions it was 0.
Tech support and customer support representative are allways helpful
and friendly. Guess why I bought Dell? Because I had very different      
experience with Gateway. Waitng time was allways more the 30 minutes
in some cases more than 60 minutes. Tech support is (was) not friendly
and in some cases not knowlegable or/and rude. I had a feeling that
they want to get rid of me asap and I am disturbing them.

:  Get A Gateway. They give their customers a free 3 year, 24 hour, 7 day a 
: week, onsite reapir service contract wihe thier higher end machines (P133 and 
: P166). 2 friends of mine just took delivery of 133s and 166s and I have had a 
: liitle bit of experience lately with Gateway's tech service. Out of 5 times 
: called to ask stupid questions mainly regardin Win95, there was never a busy 
: and we got a human immediately.
