I recently acquired a ZOOM FAX/Modem 2400 baud modem, 4800/9600 baud receive/send FAX that is Hayes compatible. I was able to install the modem to my Sparcstation IPC after a lot of trying and effort. I am running SunOS 4.1.1 and OpenWindows 2. I have been able to use the tip command to connect. However, I have several problems with the installation that has forced me to seek the great wisdom of the gurus out in netland. Please help me with the following problems:

1. I am only able to use the tip command in a terminal mode window (i.e. the textdemo -ttysw command) and then connect to my remote computer through the following command:

	tip -2400 5963500

This command works fine only in the terminal emulator window. If I use it at the command tool, I get

	dialing ...... connected

and I am stuck. I cannot connect. Is there something that I am missing?

2.	I need to upload/download files from the remote computer. I know about the ~t, ~p tip commands that I can issue when I am connected under tip. I tried them, they did work but not accurately. The files that I received were corrupted. Incidentally, they were not ASCII files. They were WordPerfect for Unix files. Any suggestions??? Is there a better way??

3.	I would like to use the FAX capabilities of this FAX/Modem. I do not know where to start. What software is available?? Is any public domain software available that I can use? If so, I need to know the name of the program and also where I can get the code!! I would sure appreciate any info/suggestions.

4.	I also have DOS Windows 1.0 installed that emulates a 286 machine. The literature that I have received from ZOOM includes software for communicating in both the FAX and MODEM modes. The software works for an IBM PC. I am not sure if I can use it since I have no idea on how to configure the serial ports on my machine in DOS Windows so that I can use them for printing/modem/FAX. Has anyone tried this out and had any success. I would appreciate any / detailed info.

5.	I am not a regular reader of this newsgroup. Hence I would request you to send detailed email to the following address:

	suresh@vienna.njit.edu

6.	If there is sufficient interest, I will summarize. BTW, this FAX/Modem cost me $89.99 at Egghead Software for an external version.

Thanks for your time. Please help!!!
