no. an mbus card is a CPU. you cannot "run" your sun without a cpu in it.

try using google.com - you should also be able to find a parts listing at
sunhelp.org which should identify the above cpus. beware that sometimes
you might not be able to run 2 cpus if the cards don't support it.

>4. What is the (501-1910) sbus card?

see above.

can you reinstall the OS ? do you have a cdrom and media ? if so, connect
them up (with both drives installed) and boot cdrom. i would recommend you
put the 2G drive in the bottom slot and use that for the OS and applications
and the 1G drive in the top slot and use it for data.

i'm not sure you can use 16M simms in a SS20. from memory, you can use 32M and
64M simms. the SS10 on the other hand i believe uses 16M and 64M simms. again,
look at sunhelp.org for how to install memory in the appropriate slots on a ss20.

solaris 8 runs just fine on a ss20. it would install and run in 64M, but i would
recommend you beef it up to 128M or even 256M depending on what you want to do.

the ss20 supports a maximum of 512M (without using the onboard SX video) or 448M
with one video buffer (onboard) or 384M with two video buffers (hard to find part).

an external scsi cdrom will work fine. make sure it has a good cable and proper
termination. a scsi id of 6 is recommended.

heh.. its a bit heavy going when you first start with sun hardware, but it's
very nice kit.. and much more fun to work with.

best of luck with your new system.
