Half an hour? Jeez and I thought my old MicroVAX took ages to start! :-)
Yes it does have a NORM/DIAG. Sorry I didn't mention it. I've tired it in
both modes but haven't waited half an hour! Isn't it supposed to output the
diags to the console when testing?

Sure am! Just a simple RS232 Cable with a null modem adapter on one end.
You know when I was getting my VAX up and running a couple of years ago, it
took me days to actually realize that the console serial connector was DCE
and not DTE as was to be expected! :-)
