Problems with X11 client-server relations

Client is called pietro.  
Server is called flare.
Both need to go to the nameserver to find the other's name

on flare:
	xhost pietro
pietro being added to access control list

on pietro
	setenv DISPLAY flare.physics.adelaide.edu.au:0
	xludwig
Xlib:  connection to "flare.physics.adelaide.edu.au:0.0" refused by server
Xlib:  Client is not authorized to connect to Server
Couldn't open display "flare.physics.adelaide.edu.au:0"

Pietro only has a couple of x applications - could it be missing something?
Flare can connect to other hosts through the nameserver.

Any ideas

Flare is IPC running 4.1.1 and Pietro is a 4/280 running 4.0.3.

But regardless of the server pietro refuses to connect - we have also tried
on a Sony 3410 running NeWS 4.0.

Any ideas?
