The CiT Transcard is now in regular use by Westbus, which operates a
large proportion of bus services in Western Sydney. It also is in use in
some stores in Western Sydney.

It is operated by placing the card on a logo, which then causes the card
reader to cmmumicate with the card by radio. It doesn't need to be
removed from a wallet to operate.

Glenorie Bus Company also uses smartcards, although these require the
card to be inserted into the reader.

Within the next few years it it likely that vending machines and parking
meters will also have smartcard technology.
