Hello. I've no idea if any of you folks can help me, but I need to find someone who can... I'd like to build a Jacob's Ladder (the electricity toy you so often see in Frankenstein movies-- the one with two tall parallel poles between which electricity arcs, and the arcs travel up the poles.) The trick is, it's rather a special one. I want one roughly the size of a doorway, that a person can walk through without getting hurt. I assume the without-getting-hurt part requires more than just an ordinary Jacob's Ladder (which would be easy enough to build the size of a doorway.) However, I don't know what the added conditions of construction would be. The reason I'm posting to news groups is that this is not the kind of subject you find in scientific journals, but I know people have done it. (also, I thought other people might be interested in it, so whatever I find out I'll gladly share... If nothing else, it'd be a striking demo for lectures on electricity.) If anybody knows anything about it, or knows anyone who knows anything about it, PLEASE email me. Thank you. ---Jer (jfaludi@reed.edu)
