Our Vision, Our Voices
Transsexual portraits and nudes.
Photographs by Loren Cameron

Black and White prints exhibiting an
     intimate perspective by photographer
     Loren Cameron, including his self-portrait
     as a female-to-male transsexual.

AT: 848 Community Art Space 415 885 1602
848 Divisadero (Between Fulton & McCallister),
     San Francisco

Gallery open: May 2-31, Sundays 1-5pm
also open during the run of "FTM"
  a performance by David Harrison
  May 6,7,8 & 13, 14,15 at 8pm.

Opening Reception was Monday evening. The show set an 848
Space opening record in attendance. Kate Bornstein and
James Green read for two audiences. (The audience had to be
split into two as the space will only allow one hundred and
fifty at capacity.)

If you missed the opening, try to catch David Harrison in
848 Space and view Loren's photography prior to the show,
during the break or after the show. David's work is always
interesting and provocative as well as full of information
and subtle humor.

The Monday night show was packed with San Francisco's gender
edge in full regalia of dyke-queer beauty, long hair,
beards, tattoos, piercings, muscles and shapely bodies.
Some mixed. In fact, most mixed. This was the place to be
on Monday night if you wanted a gestalt of the cross section
of those who are redefining gender in their personal lives.
(and incidentally, for most of the rest of the population.
It'll just take the rest of the world about fifty years to
know what happened, is happening now.) While much of the
rhetoric of the multitudes of transsexuals is guaranteed to
put even the most sympathetic listener quietly to sleep,
this show, the visuals and the comments of the models Loren
photographed are delightfully fresh and graphic. Loren
Cameron, James Green and Kate Bornstein were rewarded with
loud, enthusiastic, warm, generous and heartfelt applause.

If you have the opportunity to see these visuals, do so. It
is a must see for anyone concerned with gender and the
redefinition of gender in an injunctively mandated bi-
gendered society.
