I will say that the new rules for the Eurovision Songcontest by EBU are not
good, and a grate mistake.
The 1999 Songcontest it was for me the most unpleasant.

EBU must go back to the rules of years ago.
A Songcontest with a real orchestra, conductors, and for me the most, I will
back obligation that all the country's must sing in the own language.

That's the tradition of the real Songcontest, and not this new 'English
hitparade'.
12 songs in English in 1999 is a 'English hitparade'.
Please go back to the 'old rules'.
If not? I think I will see the Songcontest (English hitparade) never more.
Than the 'real Eurovision Songcontest' is death for me.

I don't get this. I am sure that in past years english has been used.
For example Waterloo was song in english not sweedish, and I can recall
many a song in the past that was the same. And what about Switzerland,
Belgium, and other bilinguals, or Netherlands that speak a lot of
english?

Its obvious that English should and will eventually be the language of
europe anyway

No it isn't.

They won't. good thing too. Its much better to sing about things other
people understand than a load of stuff everybody else has no
understanding of. English is the most universal of the european
languages.

Besides saying what language you can and cannot sing in is no worse than
saying you can only use these words.

Waterloo was a song in swedish during the contest, but was changed in the
english version
as soon they won.

Geert, I think you're wrong and the rule about songs having to be performed
in one of the national languages wasn't introduced until after 1974.

In '74 and '75, competitors were allowed to sing in any language. In '76 and
up until last year, they went back to singing in their native tongue.

Damo.

Ok..... that cleared that up....just be thankful that the UK didn't enter
STEPS for the comp....seeing them on TOTP whilst channel surfing was
torture.
