In the latest edition of my alt.usage.english FAQ, I have: # Ebonics shares with U.S. Southern English "carry" in the sense "to # escort"; the sentence "I'm going to take you, but I'm not going to # carry you" would in Ebonics be "I gonna carry you, but I ain' # gonna tote you." I added this from memory, and now I can't find my source. Can anyone tell me whether my Ebonics is correct, or better yet, tell me where I may have read this? -- misrael@scripps.edu Mark Israel
