What resolutions are you scanning at? If set to say the 'best' --- your machine is doing what it should unless you have one powerhouse machine. What happens when you scan at say 150 or 300 dpi? Mine works this sameway on a 200 mhz w/64mbs RAM--- anything less than 600dpi does ok. But say it's at 2100 and well, it'll be awhile before the scan is complete and nope, the system doesn't like to be used during the process. I didn't use updated drivers for win98, used the same ones that came with it for 95. However, it did take me about 3 software installs to get it right :-) Check device manager and make sure every driver is it's 'own' by checking 'driver info.' If vmm32 is in parenthesis, you need to extract the file listed to your windows\system and\or windows\system\vmm32 folder. If you don't, scanner problems are but the beginnings of your troubles. You could also check with HP's website--- fantastic company with fantastic support. good luck SmokeyMtnBelle <<< http://members.xoom.com/WinWoes >>> Leila Misel Marimuthu <108080@bud.cc.swin.edu.au> wrote in message news:Pine.OSF.3.91.981119101127.24006B-100000@bud.cc.swin.edu.au... >Hello everyone! > >Thankyou for all your help so far....I was having problems with my >HP5100c Scanjet working....I have since got the Windows 98 drivers, and >resolved the problem of the getting the message saying 'scanner is being >used by another program'. > >Now it's kind of working, but when I start the scanning software, it >starts fine, but then your pc starts to slow down, the mouse gets very >very slow and the system halts. > >Could anyone let me know of their experiences with this part of the >installation process.... > >Thankyou very much.... > >Leila. > >==================================================== >\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/ >Visit Black Beauty's Domain: >http://www.geocities.com/Broadway/Balcony/6642 >\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/ >====================================================
