Have also had problems with my 5100C Scanner.  Some of the options don't
work they way they are supposed to and the green "Scan" button does nothing
at all.  Had a problem with the copy utility working but seems to do OK now.
Major problem I had is that my printer (also an HP) has scanning option, and
would not allow my new scanner to work on the same system.  Calls to HP
Support didn't help at all.  I ended up having to reinstall the scanner
about five times and for some strange reason it works reasonably well.
