If you don't use user profiles, are not on a lan/wan, don't share
files, or printers, then you can normally log onto windows once and
then never have to got through the windows log on again.
I have installed the Microsoft Family logon client and the dial-up
adapter.
I have the Microsoft family logon as the default windows logon.
I then logged onto windows with a nonblank user ID and a blank
password.
After that, I don't get the log on dialog unless I use the start menu
log off.
Since you want windows to save a password for your dial-up connection,
it could be argued that you do need a user ID.

I hope that this helps. 8-).
