Hi all

I have built a system (details below) and have installed Windows 98 - it all
runs fine.  * Except * when I install an unbranded 33.6 (V34 plug and play,
believed Rockwell based) ISA modem card.  The OS detects it initially as a
33.6 card (new hardware found... shows 33.6) but then goes ahead and
installs the
drivers for a Standard 300 bps Modem (not as a 33.6 card) :(

The BIOS reports it as a 33.6 PnP Modem and the manual says it is.  I
installed it into another Win98 machine and it detected and installed the
card
fine (see below).

I tried installing it as non PnP (i.e. No, I want to select..., chose
Rockwell 33.6 Int then put it on COM2) - the Device Manager reported it as
working properly but it wouldn't dial and the Control Panel, Modem,
Diagnostics 'More Info' reports 'Couldn't open port'.

I have been through safe mode driver uninstall, manual IRQ allocation and
everything else I can think of, but I can't get it to install and work as a
33.6 modem.

What ideas do you have?
