How to get CPU use %?

    Hi,
I'd like to know if there's any way to compute the current CPU load in the
system using soe king of simple command or kernel code.
I'd like to use java to invoke this application, but if someone knows how to
do it in C or C++ I might consider moving to that. I'd also like to get the
total available memory in the system.
