Hi,

I have an Amd K6 500 mhz, with a Voodoo3 board.
Computer worked fine until one day while booting up into Windows98 the
diskscan window appeared. It was getting stuck around 4% and wasn't
getting much further. I tried the Western Digital diskscan utility and
it restored the disk drive and i was able to boot into Windows98.

All works well except the Video. It tells me I have a problem with the
video properties. So I installed back to basic VGA and it will only
give me 640X480 16 colors. Then i try to load my Voodoo Drivers and
that keeps rejecting saying that I don't have the proper hardware for
that card. Finally I got it to accept the Voodoo drivers but again I
am stuck in 640 X480 16 colors.

Any Ideas? I tried another diskdrive with a fresh install of Windows
98 and it recognizes my Voodoo Card. So there is nothing wrong with
the card.

Thanks,

Danny

Dan,

Sometimes Windows has more than one video driver (or other) installed and
this can only be seen in Safe Mode. Start your PC holding down the ctrl key
(some computers use F8 instead) until you get the menu to allow starting in
Safe Mode. Once there, go to Device Manager (control panel/system/device
manager) and expand Display Drivers. Remove all but the one for the Voodoo
then reboot. With any luck you will be OK.

If not try it the other way around. Reload the VGA, use Safe Mode to be sure
that Voodoo is gone, then reboot and hopefully Windows will detect the
Voodoo. Your driver will probably be in C:\Windows\Inf\Other .
