Win98 memory errors! HELP!

yo,

I've just bought a new computer that has Windows 98 installed. But now I get
a lot of errors. They're all similar. It's always something like "xxx has
caused an exception in xxx". And then you get a list of registers (you know,
a lot of hexadecimal numbers or something). I've had errors caused in
"avsndsys.dll", "sndstrm.dll", and other files. It happens when I start
certain programs, or for instance when I call the properties of my display
(resolution etc...).
I've already tried re-installing the drivers of my graphical card and my
sound card, but nothing helps.
And what's more: When I shut down Windows, I sometimes get a blue screen
with a memory exception (similar to the other exceptions). Or sometimes the
computer just stays at the "Windows is shutting down"-screen. The only
option is to reset the computer, and then when it's rebooted, the resolution
and colors of the screen are back to their default values.

Is something wrong with my memory or my sound card? Or anything else?

Thanks!
