Hi,

I have been having an audio problem for a while now.
I have posted to a few groups, and yet to find the fix.
It seems to be software related.

When I play a wav or mp3 file with the standard MS media player(I have tried
ver 6 and 7) the sound is totally distorted... not just clipping ...but
noise!
Same thing with the windows sounds ... total distortion

When I play the same files with my Cakewalk audio program, it sounds
perfect.

I have tried to reload windows in the hope that it would reload some
corrupted driver or codec or something

No dice...

I have reinstalled my sound card Ensoniq (SB PCI 64)

No dice...

I tried removing any audio reference in the registry, and reinstall
windows...

No dice...

I tried to use system file checker and search for a corrupted file

No dice...

Anyone have any dice?

Thanks in advance

HJ

Only thing I can think of off hand, is if your Multimedia Settings allow
adjustment for Bass/Treble. If these are maxed out, it could cause
clipping, but not sure why it would only happen with some clients.

Thx for the suggestions...

Still not working.

1 Winamp still has problem
2 There is no treble and bass control on this card.

I must have a corrupt file somewhere... I don't know how else to find it.

I really don't want to wipe my drive and do a fresh install!

Normally audio is not so important... in fact I turned off all those
annoying windows sounds ages ago.... but I am a musician and audio is quite
important. Good thing my Cakewalk audio program still performs without
distortion.

Thx

HJ
