Does anyone have any idea how the SoundMAX integrated audio solutions
poerform compared to PCI sound cards? I've always been wary of onboard
audio, especially for gaming. But from what I've read this seems to be
somewhat promising from the standpoint of peformance. Comments welcome.

SoundMax is pretty new and the quality should be comparable to any soundcard
supporting surround 5.1! However, make sure you have enough sys ram
installed (at least 256 MB) as the sound chip uses cpu resources.
