>: Maybe you haven't clued in yet. Maybe a *lot* of foreigners haven't
>: clued in yet. Let me clear up a few things:
>:
>: o The vast majority of us Canadians, as in *people*, agree
>: with this idea of banning evidence to protect the accused.
>: You are "helping" to thwart the democratic desires of the
>: Canadian people.

Oh really? Which "vast majority" where you talking to? Obviously
not the "vast majority" I did.

Helping thwart the democratic desires of the Canadian people?? The
only clear democratic desire of the Ontario people is to get rid of
Bob Rae...so shooting down Boyd may be helping the democratic desires
of the Canadian people after all.

>: o We're having a big debate over whether or not this principle
>: should have been applied the way it was in this case. There
>: are lots of sticky issues, and we're dealing with them. A
>: slight majority thinks it was proper, but a sizable minority
>: thinks it wasn't.

Where are you getting your stats???

>: o We have lots of ways of dealing with this. We have our own
>: courts, our own media, our own legislatures -- that are lots
>: of Canadian things that a concerned Canadian can do about it.
>: Thanks for the offer, foreigner, but we don't need your help.

This seems a bit xenophobic here...I'll take good input from whomever wants
to give it.

>: Finally for all you foreigners who seem to know so little about Canadian
>: democracy, and yet are so concerned for its future, here is a history
>: lesson for you --
>:
>: Do you know what happened the last time a Canadian government pissed off
>: the Canadian people? That's right -- we smashed them out of existence,
>: down from a vast majority of some hundreds of seats to TWO SEATS. That's
>: right, TWO. They're not even an official party anymore. When was the
>: last time something like this happened in America? Not recently? I'm
>: not surprised.

I'm sorry I missed the relevance, because look what replaced them. :-(

>: If I were you I'd be worried about the stranglehold a small group of
>: people in two parties have on your political system. I can tell you
>: that right now Canadian governments are paying a lot of attention to
>: the Canadian people and what they want -- there's a big dead Tory
>: corpse on the ground to remind them what might happen if they don't.

Are they?? "Jobs, jobs, jobs"....where are they? Canadians want responsible
spending and we get a $40 000 000 000 deficit.

>: Democracy is alive and very, very well in Canada, thank you very much.

I would say "Democracy is alive and well in Canada", sans "very, very".

>Don't you know the americans know better the Canadian what is good for
>Canada!!

Huh?

>Which american cares that judges in the states also put gag orders on the
>lawyer etc. That the only reason that most americans what the ban lifted
>is that they can get more juicy delatials on the subject ( tonya harding
>where are you??????)

That's quite a presumptuous statement. Furthermore, if it were true wouldn't
it be true for Canadians as well?

>The accused has a right for a FAIR trail period. if you cann't get that
>through your red, white and blue eyes well sorry.

How about someone who doesn't see red, white, and blue, but rather red and
white?

> ....YOU don't have more
>rights then the accused and even though information is on the net I hope
>most potential jurors haven't heard any of the dealails, otherwise our
>system of judgtice will become like the American trail by the media!!!

That's ridiculous! If the public is given the facts, then you are saying
that it is a trail by media? I would fathom that if the public is
given the facts, they will make an informed decision. While I'm not a
fan of "trail by media", banning information from a trial and not allowing
the public into a trial IMHO is wrong.
