Once we all start abiding by laws which say that we cant trade PGP or
other encryption code, they'll see that it works to enforce such laws and just
enforce a whole bunch more like not allowing DISCUSSION of strong crypto,
for eg. Next thing you know we wont be allowed to talk about anything. But
since its the law and a site's feed might get shut down, we'd better abide
by this - this is what you're saying?

You're placing an AWFUL lot of trust in the lawmakers and policing agencies.

RESTRICTION OF INFO: Another example

While the rest of the world and half of Ontario was talking about Kurdt Cobain
killing himself, the other half of Ontario was mourning Vivi Lemonis's shooting
death in an upscale desserts cafe in an upscale area of Toronto. (Anyone
in the US hear of this? I spose this would be a daily occurence in your
cities, but here it's a MAJOR deal. Sorry for the low blow, but...)

The police have three suspects, and are looking for them but the descriptions
have NOT been released.

Now, I spose a ton of people are going to be saying "why cant we know" and
someone might even publish such details on the net. I can think of a few
reasons why they MIGHT not be released, and releasing these details might
result in NOT aprehending the suspects.

Seems to me that alot of you on these groups would like to see the information
in the name of "Free speech" and the "good of the collective", and meanwhile
risk not having these people caught. Do you agree? Or is this an easy decision
now for you, and you do agree that the details should not be released?

And if its the latter, then why doesn't this apply to Teale's trial?

(Just talking to a friend on the phone -- seems the TO Star ran a story
telling how the police put out a dragnet for the criminals, before the
police even started. Seems now the police have aborted their plans? I dont
know the details - anyone?)
