Listening to what you're saying is like me stepping into a cesspool. I
don't know where to start to get the dripping crap off of me.

The real basic problem in this industry, from the consumer standpoint, is
that if there are any "rules" written down anywhere -- they are a bunch of
disclaimers from the ISP and a bunch of stuff designed by ISP lawyers,
exclusively for the ISPs and not for any "common good" (if you include
"consumers" in the term "common"). The only "common good" that is
referenced is the "common good" of the industry of ISPs -- mainly
referring to the "balance sheet." Now, that's the "common good" being
referenced.

On the consumer side, it's a bunch of rules that many times are vague,
uneforceable and very sporadically enforced -- depending on who you are,
what you say and whether you're liked or not. That's about the size of it
in real life and practice.

And going further, along that line, even the ISPs cannot agree amongst
themselves about any "common set of rules." There are big disagreements
there and you can even see ISPs and other Internet entities arguing loudly
about it.

So, anyone who tries to tell you to abide by the "rules" -- you can say
which set of 2,567 rules are you talking about? And how many are invalid
and have never been tested in a court of law. And how many would be so
vague to be totally unenforceable. It goes on and on. The only thing these
rules accomplish is totally confuse any new user and put all the "cards"
into the hands of "net-nazis" to say -- "Oh, you broke the rules." There
are so many "competing" rules (where one thing disagrees with another),
that you might as well say you have "no rules" at all. And if someone
tries to "enforce" the rules -- all it really comes down to is not
"enforcing the rules" -- but trying to "pull your plug" -- and get you
canned from your ISP.

This deal about "rules" is the biggest fraud and sham there is on the
Internet. There are laws in this country -- and if those are broken, then
you call the authorities. But, if anyone tries to tell you there are
"rules" on the Internet -- well just "roll on the floor laughing" because
that's about all it's worth.

----------

For an "example" of the "rules" -- just look at the "copyright flap" about
including e-mail addresses in a posting. "There are no rules on the
Internet (really damn few; a very few though). But there are laws in this
country and they are dealt with by the authorities.

The rest you hear about is all garbage (if someone tries to tell you
"broke the rules").
