Is anyone as excited as I am about meeting Scott Adams,
creator of "Dilbert," my favorite comic strip?
Before or afterwards we could do lunch at House of Siam, the awesome Thai
restaurant recently discovered in downtown San Jose.
This afternoon I had an idea for a Dilbert series while mountain biking. I'll
tack it on after this part:

DILBERT SERIES IDEA
Dilbert's company is sponsoring a charity bike-a-thon, you know,
Pac Bell 100-Mile Ride for Myopia. Someone says that 10,000 men
and women will be in the ride. Dilbert thinks: the elite men
will all be riding too fast, leaving 5,000 Lycra-clad women
for the slow guys.
So he buys a mountain bike and spends 150 hours computer-analyzing
tire tread patterns to come up with the most efficient design, and
15 minutes training for the ride.
He insists the Dogbert run alongside on a leash, looking adorable,
to attract women.
So off they go on the ride. Dogbert gets tired and insists that
Dilbert carry him. Given Dilbert's poor bike-handling skills,
Dogbert insists that Dilbert pedal while Dogbert steers.
All the elite men whoosh past them. All the women whoosh past.
There's just two women left, coming up behind. Dilbert pedals
hard so they won't pass him. They catch him, and they're his
mother and grandmother.
After 7.75 hours, they're out of sight of the parking lot. They
have 15 minutes to finish the 100-mile ride. These mountain bikes
are a lot harder to pedal than Dilbert expected. Then Dogbert
notices that the tires are mounted backwards. The uni-directional
super-efficient tread design is slowing them down! There's no
time for taking the tires off and putting them on the right way,
so they turn the bike around, and Dilbert sits backwards and pedals
while Dogbert steers. They whoosh past all the other riders and
finish the ride.
