As an end user, I get Altopia access from my ISP who buys it in bulk.
I am very angry about the change that includes the NNTP posting host
information in the message header. I have been posting some ah,
sensitive, information to Usenet and I need to be anonymous. When I
posted, I used to have this information in the message header:

Path:news.alt.net!205.138.138.57

Now I get this:

news.alt.net!novagate.com!

I think it is extremely unfair to the Altopia customers to take away
this ability to post anonymously. My ISP is a relatively small 4 city
operation and it is very easy for people to figure out who I am.
Worse, I didn't notice the change for a few days and several messages
from me went out with the header information about my ISP. Now my
e-mail address has been posted openly by someone who figured out who I
am, and I have been harassed and mailbombed constantly because of this
idiotic change! Worse still, I find out that Altopia wants me to get
my privacy back by(you guessed it) paying them big money! This is
insane! I pay a premium for a very upscale ISP that includes Altopia
access with every account and I get this bullshit! Chris even
admitted that the post "hinting" at this change was buried in some
obscure post on altnet.general! I am not a regular reader of
altnet.general, I just read altnet.announce. Since it was not
announced there until after the change occured, people could figure
out who I was by my ISP. I encourage everyone(end user or individual
altopia user) to let them know you won't stand for this violation of
privacy! It is obviously a scam to get more $ from me by making me
pay to get my privacy back thinly disguised as an attempt to stop
spammers!
