Tell your friend to not waste his money. I made the sad mistake of spending money on an A500, it was still too slow for the internet. the solution is to keep an eye out for a used amiga 2000 model which is at least expandable. After spending about
$700 Canadian on a hard drive, a 3.1 rom update a fatter agnus chip software for the internet. I was extremely dissapointed
that it was so slow, the A500 came with .5 mg of chip ram I suspect the a1000 being an older model to have about the same.
I spent $50 to have a technician make a jump on the motherboard to trick the machine into using the expanded memory as chip memory and it was still to slow, just not enough processing power for today's world. When I met a friend with more knowdledge and experiance he looked on these news groups to find me a A2000 with a csa accelerator "Motorola 68030"
rather than Stock 68000, new keyboards and a dkb scsi driver, but no hard drive, for $400 canadian. Your friend's A1000
iis pre 286 dont spend money if you want to talk further cbuors@pangea.ca
