This may be a silly question, but why are you loading Workbench from
floppies?  ISTR that that was a good way to not have your hard drive
recognized, especially back in the 1.3 days if you didn't have the
appropriate mount files for the hard drive on the floppies.  The A590
will automount a hard drive but was very particular about drivers.

Have you used the A590/2090 HDInstall disk?  IIRC, it was one of the
few available disks that worked well with an A590 (for installing a
hard drive in it).  The disk was meant for OS 1.3, but ISTR still
having to use it once in a while after I had installed a 2.04 ROM in
the A500.

OTOH, have you tried replacing the power cable between the A590 and
the HD?  As someone else said, if it were faulty it could cause the
problem that you're having.
