To find the latest server addresses for BeyondIRC go to http://www.beyondirc.net Who founded #linuxhelp ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #linuxhelp was founded by Linux nutter AxeManiac, who lives in the UK. Annoyed that he could'nt find a decent, well controlled Linux channel for all levels of user, he registered #linuxhelp on BeyondIRC. How do I log on to #linuxhelp ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To get you started though, here is some steps to getting on BeyondIRC and #linuxhelp 1. Get an IRC client. If you are using Windows, then go to http://www.mirc.co.uk for the mIRC client. Other windows clients include pIRCh and CHAT. Alternativly if you are using Linux, you could use KSirc (http://www.ksirc.org) for an X Windows client or BitchX (http://w3.one.net/~roz/software/irc/bitchx/) for console mode. Another alternative is IRCII. Browse the web to see which one you prefer. 2. When you have downloaded a client and installed it, load it up and see in the server list if there is a BeyondIRC server. mIRC usually has a couple of servers listed, in which case you just need to select one, type in your desired nick and log on. Simple! If you dont have any servers for BeyondIRC though, don't fret!...check out http://www.beyondirc.net for the server listings. As an example, below is the details for the server I log onto. Try using it! DESCRIPTION: BeyondIRC IRC SERVER : babylon.beyondirc.net PORT(S) : 6667, 6668, 6669 GROUP : beyondirc By the way...you don't need a password :) How do I register my nickname? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To register your nick so noone else can steal it, type: /msg nickserv register <password> Well there ya go...follow the instructions and come on see what ya think. It's good fun and handy in those late night installation sessions when you cant get the damn soundcard to work :) NOTE FOR NEWBIES: IF you are new to linux, #linuxhelp is a good place to ask questions on linux from people who know about it. Seeya there! Who controls #linuxhelp ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In #linuxhelp the people in charge are called Operators. The operators are the names at the topic of the list with a @ next to them e.g. @AxeManiac. Channel operators have control of the channel and can kick and and ban people from the channel if they violate the rules. Our channel operators however are VERY fair, and only kick and ban people in extreme circumstances.
