I'm having ideas of putting up a FAQ regarding the installation of
linux/m68k under the C=AMIGA platform.
Would anyone care to give me some backup on this subject?

If you mean backup as in knowledge, sorry your on your own. If you mean backup as in "Good on ya", I want to know it all, yes you've got an audience. I've got RedHat 6.0 on my "PC" server, it's a bit of a learning exercise at the moment, but I think it would be great to have one common OS across all my machines. I do the IT thing at work but it's all i386 Win /95/98/NT stuff, Crap OS but then again the majority rules. I've got an A1200 with 040 accelerator, 16Mb, 32x Cdrom, 2Gb HardDrive, I have an I-card pcmcia Ethernet adapter that has never run under Workbench (bought it second hand off the internet (YES, I know, "ID 10 T"). I'll stop waffling at this moment, have you got the know how to install Linux on an Amiga? And if so, do you know how to turn it into an SMTP relay ;0) I'm all for it. I can tell you what I did:
1. Download the following into the AMIGA
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/slink/main/disks-m68k/current/amiga/amigai
nstall.lha
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/slink/main/disks-m68k/current/common/base2
_1.tgz
Download a recent kernel binary from
http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/Linux/LOCAL/680x0/v2.0/modules-2.0.0.bin.tar.
gz
Extract the vmlinux from the above package to the debian dir created by
amigainstall.lha and edit the Startinstall in the same dir and change the
command to something like:
> amiboot-5.6 -d -k vmlinuz -r rootamiga.bin root=/dev/ram video=pal
Follow the instructions in the Debian2.1/m68k Installation Guide, you can
find it in:
http://www.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de/~amigo/debian_inst.html
Once installed you can download .deb packages from the debian dist site (2)
and upload them to the amiga (to access msdos sized disks in the amiga under
linux you have to add the drive yourself with mknod /dev/pc0 b 2 4 I
recommend having a serial link from the internet connected machine and the
amiga, then download minicom.deb, transfer it by diskette and start
uploading via minicom later.
Download and install the gcc and binutils .deb packages, so you can download
a kernel source and compile it (it takes ours on my A4000/040)
You can then download and install sendmail, the .deb will alert you for any
packages needed (by dependence) by sendmail - download and install them
first.
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/slink/main/binary-m68k/mail/sendmail_8.9.3
-3slink1.deb

Hope this helped... see why I want to put up a FAQ?
Good Luck and Merry Cristmas

I suggest you check out comp.os.linux.m68k, they already have a pretty good FAQ. It is available from <URL:ftp://sunsite.auc.dk/projects/680x0/FAQ.gz> BTW the amiga.* hierarchy is not as well propogated as comp.* -- <URL:http://www.pierrot.co.uk/> Team AMIGA (apologies for any formatting errors, I'm using the spawn of satan to post...)
