Hi I've just read a long statement form Vulcan Software: http://www.cucug.org/amiga/aminews/1998/980210-vulcan.html It makes for sobering reading, with a lot of home truths. The problem is a lot of us cannot afford two systems, at anywhere near cutting edge, and any new Amiga's with PPC's won't be cheap. The PC has unfortunetly become a standard, and it is virtually a compulsory buy if you have kids at school. It's also handy for people at work. The software on the Internet is also 95% PC. I have a PC and an Amiga. Unfortunetly I've spent a small fortune on the PC, and only $200 recently on the Amiga, for the "Siamese" system.(This also begs the question if I bought the Siamese for the Amiga, or the PC?). I think the standalone Amiga will not survive, unless there are also some Amiga/PC hybrids around. These could be of varying flavours: 1)Amiga NT, (at least you could give the PC the flick, and spend the proceeds on the Amiga) 2)Amiga Card inside the PC. A horrifying thought, but has to be considered. 3)Siamese Alpha, running Amiga,NT,(Mac?).(Only if price can be kept to pentium II levels). The one real advantage the Amiga has, is that amigans hate Windows, a lot of PC users hate Windows, but how do we let them know there is an alternative. Also we have to make the alternative, a relatively painfree experience. Therefore Amiga/PC hybrids are a must, no matter how disgusting the thought is to a true Amigan. I am not a technical expert, but I do want the Amiga to survive, even if it means "sleeping with the enemy", though hopefully this will be temporary.
