I don't know what your *real* capacity is, with relation to AOL .... however taking the chance that you may have some communcation with someone of importance, I will presume that perhaps a lucid obsevation, description and consequences of the problem at hand, may attract some attention. I've been lurking in this NG for about 3 weeks now. I have also placed telephone calls to AOL Technical assistance on 3 different occasions. The techs don't even know how to use a newgroup, much less tell some one how to correct a problem such as we are having. The shift supervisors don't know any more then the techs. I've tried to E-mail the news master twice, and have yet to receive a reply or even an acknowledgement. I sent an E- mail to on line tech assistance and received a "canned" reply that did not address my specific problem but just generally appoligized for "the problem" I was having and said that it was being worked on and would be" corrected as soon as possible". An E-mail to Steve Chase got approximately the same response. Telephone calls to the executive offices in Virginia could not find anyone there who had any information, direction or assitance with regard to newgroups nor any acknowledgment that any one even *knew* that a problem existed. I consider that as having exhausted every avenue of seeking help by a user of AOL's services. You say that I should not be having any problems at this point. Well ...... let me say that I've been participating in Usenet newgroups on AOL for about 2 years. During that time there were a couple of times that the postings didn't come through for a day or so. BUT ..... Starting at the end of January of 2000, and continuing today, I get about 2 to 5 posts a day out of about 30 to 50 that are actually being made. I am using RemarQ.com which is a website newsreader. I am getting all of the posts that are being made to my newsgroups that AOL is not picking up. So that eliminates the possibility that it is *NOT* AOL's problem. And do you know what? RemarQ.com is a much better newsreader then AOL's. So I can, in fact, say *thank you* to AOL, for making me look else where and being able to find a better reader. And do you want to know something else? Instead of having my newsgroups auto downloaded, now I stay on line for about an hour or more longer each day reading my newsgroups. Happily taking up bandwidth that I'm sure AOL would like to use elsewhere. But alas, the joy of that runs thin and I am presently on the lookout for another ISP. So ..... all in all, I really must say thank you to AOL for making me realize that there are better services, available. Please convey my profound appreciation. I'll bet there are very few businesses in the world that provide their custromers with so many reasons and incentives to use the competition. I'm sure that the utimate goal of all AOL users being under 12 years old, will soon be realized. Incompetence has it's rewards. Please note that I tried to send this message twice via AOL and then had to resort to sending it via RemarQ. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free!
