I've just installed a CD-Rewriter and my system is set up as shown: PRIMARY MASTER: Hard Drive PRIMARY SLAVE: CD-Rewriter SECONDARY MASTER: CD-Rom SECONDARY SLAVE: None The lead that used to connect to my CD-ROM from my sound card is now connected to my CD-Rewriter (Which means I can't play CD-Audio on my CD-ROM, just on my CD-Rewriter). My main aim is to make back-ups of my audio CD's using the two CD drives, is this the correct and best configeration? If possible, please e-mail any answers direct, thanks in advance for any help. If this is the wrong newgroup for this post, can anyone suggest a goup that might be more appropriate?

Which one, idiot? You've spammed it to all these: aol.techchat,comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.tech,comp.sys.powerpc.tech,demon. tech.pc,microsoft.public.technet,uk.tech.misc,worldnet.help.general,zetn et.help.hardware Hint: a crosspost to two or three newsgroups is sufficient. -- Mike Tomlinson See the sci.electronics.repair FAQ mirror at http://www.jasper.demon.co.uk/repairfaq/

Also checking Dejanews (http://www.dejanews.com) is a good idea to avoid asking questions that have been answered dozens of times.....

First, you don't say it your IDE secondary port is on the motherboard - but if it is on an ISA port -your bus bandwidth may not be sufficient. secondly, you need to ensure that the digital audio transfer capacity of the CD-RoM is sufficient otherwise you will get buffer under-runs - or worse still a "clicky" recording that takes a **year** to make Personally, I have the CD-RW as the Secondary Master and the CD-Rom as secondary slave. I have also found it better to make an Image of the Audio disk first. My SB 64 pnp card has both an audio CD input and an Auxilliary input - I have CD connected to Aux and the CD-RW connected to CD- - the cd volume control applies to both. Best of luck
