Ich verwende dir Einstellungen laut German.HOWTO:

      (setq ispell-extra-args '("-Tlatin1"
                                "-d" "/usr/lib/german"
                                "-w" "aeoeueAeOeUess"))
                                      ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
                                      hier stehen natuerlich Umlaute
