Okay! Since you asked so nice and 'cause you seem to be a open minded person, I'll try to do my best. I think the most common reason ist that many people in Austroa are really upset. It is not the situation alone. Many person believe that we have good conditions here. We have a very small unemployment rate, our inflation is very little and the economic growth is acceptable. So they tell us. Maybe many people don't believe these statements. I am for my own part not interessted in the truth of these statements. It is, as a said, not the situation, it is the behaviour of the politicians of the government parties. They behave as if this country is reightfully theirs and all other people should work for them, but it should be visa versa. It looks as if they only cash all the money in they can get their hands on. What ever they do, what ever it is, I don't know the real reason why our last government was so inefficient. I only know that many people are upset that they didn't want or seemed not to want to change anything. For more than two decades the socialist party was in the government. Many people don't want them to be any part of it any longer. Only 17% of the people that voted for the FPOe had racism as a reasons for their vote. I will quote an articel from an austrian university newspaper (HTU-Info 9/99) about the election. I've to translate it and therefore I think it will lose something of its terseness. (by Christoph_; but what a pitty not me ;-)) *It doesn't look good for the SPOe, you can read it through the make up and despite their professional consultants in their faces and in their posture. Kostelka (Leader of the SPOe parlamentary club) lost his breath standing in front of the press after the exploratory talks with the 'Freiheitlichen'. A county organisation commited suicide in theater style and on the national level it was not certain for some time if the chairman will prevail against his own party. Now the misery is great in the party that once governed absolute, whose power seemed to be invincible an that manifested itself in (almost) all spheres of life. But: did the comrades really believe that the System Vranitzky/Klima/Rudas (the primeminister of the government before the last one/the finanical minister of the governement before the last one and the primeminister of the last/national manager of the SPOe) would exist forever? Did they really believe that media work, nice statements and the preservation of the Status-quo - therefore a political Potemkin Village - would help them to preserve their power? Did they really believe the 'Generationsvertrag(Generation-Contract)' (pension problematic) would go throug a self healing process, that they would get the bottomless national expenses into their grip without deep structural changes? Did they believe people wouldn't notice the big heap of unsolved problems? Did the SPOe assume that it could continue to put their higher officials and former ministers in state-owned enterprises without to avoke the annoyance of the public? Did nobody in the SPOe recognise that the protection of labor using the system of 'Betriebsrte/Gewerkschafts/Arbeiterkammer(works council/labor union/chamber of work') doesn't work properly, that this system in the meantime works more likely for (higher) employee and the (official) machine, that this system doesn't help to protect the people at the 'bottom'? These omissions aren't mere trifles but deplorable state of affairs, that have the tendency to shake the social system in their foundation. There was only one missing who knew to use this. This one exist and he is on the point of taking the fate of the state into his hands, the 'foreinger-problem' alone and lively statements at SS-Veteran-Conventions wouldn't got him so fare.* This summarizes what I think has happend. But that are only my 0,2 Euro ;-) Nobody really can be 100 percent certain what happend. There are only a few more things to say: 1. Maybe at the moment the situation is not bad, but with the old government it would have lasted a few more years and the situation would have been worse. 2. This is a new opportunity. These are fresh people and there is a proverb here in Austria *Neue Besen kehren gut(New brooms sweep better)*. But if the other european countries block us, neglect our right for self determination, and condemn a government bevore they have done something, commited any crime, there will be no chance. 3. All other countries, that cry so loud at the moment, should better shut up! There are dead bodies in the cellars of everyone. I can't understand this behaviour, 'cause the same politicians that now cry so loud have been shoulder deep in the assholes of the chinese politicians that orderd mass executions. But we are only a small country of 8 million people and China is a big country of 1 billion people and more and with nuclear weapons. Whom do you want to annoy more? BTW which of the NGs from the header do you have subcribed? I hate crossposting, but the only one of these groups I am able to subcribe is at.network.chello. Are you able to read my posting in the other groups? Grisu -- It is embarrassing to know that one is a god of a world that only exists because every improbability curve must have its far end.
