* Greetings from The MIT Entrepreneurs Club * aka: The E-Club Special Presentation Seth Riskin '89 Development Topic: Light Dance Tuesday, 19 July 7pm in 2-105 Video plus conceptual and technical talk with the artist-inventor, followed by group discussion of development and marketing of the art form, theater arts, architectural interiors consulting and new technical products associated with this unique work. Seth Riskin is a researcher and artist at MIT's Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS). As an artist, he has developed, since 1987, the Light Dance art form and invented, at MIT and Carnegie Mellon University, its specific lighting technologies and suits of optical materials. In Light Dance, Seth projects, reflects and diffracts light from his body, as he employs his physical ability as a gymnast to conduct light phenomena in a quiet, space- defining light poetry. Seth has developed an "anthropology" of light that compliments his art, a study of the relationship of light and human being in various disciplines and cultures. Last year, under a Fulbright grant, he researched light in Hindu culture, relating Hindu and Western concepts and practices of light. Seth studied painting and competed in gymnastics at Ohio State University. In 1985 he was awarded the NCAA National Championship on the parallel bars and in 1986 he received his BFA. In 1989 Seth earned an MSVS (Master of Science in Visual Studies) at MIT, where he devised the Light Dance art form. He was appointed Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University in 1991. In 1992 he was awarded a Fulbright grant to India and next fall he will teach a course, based on his research, at Tufts University.
