* Greetings from The MIT Entrepreneurs Club, aka: The E-Club *
announcing
The Fifth Annual MIT $10K'94 Student Entrepreneurial Competition
Joost Bonsen, course 6, '92, 10K'94 Chair
Doug Ling & Richard Shyduroff, Co-Founders, Co-Directors
The MIT E-Club
(contest information on-line: <10k-request@athena>)
MIT 1994 $10K ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETITION CONTESTANT KITS are available in
the Dean of Engineering Office (1-206) and the Sloan Master's Office
(E52-112). The MIT Entrepreneurs Club (e-club) and the Sloan New
Ventures Association (NVA), jointly produce the Annual "10K" Contest,
to promote student entrepreneurship and cross-campus team building.
All full-time MIT undergraduates and graduate students registered in the
Fall 1993 and/or Spring 1994 semesters are eligible. Contestants submit
proposals for new original business ventures in a three-phase judging
process. Preliminary entries, due in February, are relatively terse
5-page Executive Summaries of the business idea. From these entries,
semi-finalists are selected and asked to prepare well-developed Business
Plans by mid-April. From these Plans, finalists are chosen and asked to
prepare a short presentation and to interview with the 10K judges.
Cash and in-kind awards, including the new $10,000 David and Lindsay
Morgenthaler Grand Prize, are presented to the winning teams at a special
session of The MIT Enterprise Forum in May, 1994.
Contestant Kits contain all essential Contest information and references
to resources, including relevant MIT courses and IAP sessions.
All entrepreneurially-minded students are strongly encouraged to enter!
A Note on Team Building Assistance:
Students looking for team members should consider employing the new
_Team-Building Resume Book_ by submitting their resumes in hard-copy or
electronic format via The E-Club. Hard-copy may be sent by MIT inter-
departmental mail to The MIT E-Club, c/o Richard Shyduroff, E15-443, MIT,
or resumes may be dropped off at the Visible Language Workshop,
aka, the VLW, at E15-443, during regular laboratory hours; electronic
submissions may be sent to <rdshydur@athena.mit.edu> in either
straight ascii or in p.s. (post script) format. Every resume will
be acknowledged as it is received. Please ensure that telephone
numbers and e-mail addresses are current and correct. If you
don't get a telephone or e-mail acknowledgement within 48 hours,
call x3-2000 and inquire.
Finally, if you're only interested in the 10K but know you won't be
competing, by some reasonable date before the first deadline, please
consider returning your information packet, intact, to The E-Club.
We occasionally run out of packets while interest is quite high, and we
send a few packets every year to new prospective donors, MIT alum
interested in contributing and judging and to faculty and department
heads who want to know what this project entails for possible use
in entrepreneurial course matter.
Thanks for your interest in this year's 10K! And if you do go ahead
and choose to participate, we all wish you success! In the words
of Dean Joel Moses: `Thou Shalt Enterprise!'
