The harm of malathion and the like is not just the time period that the
chemical is sprayed and shortly afterward, it's the cumulutative effect of
the use of so many poisons in the U.S.   And the use of poisonous mosquito
spray dates way back to when they did that automatically w/o looking at
alternatives.  I wonder if all the alternatives have been checked out.  I
would be surprised if there were not another way to deal with the problem,
although more expensive.

Then, if there is no alternative, the cost of lives lost (and medical
expenses and pain and suffering) in not using it should be weighed against
the cost to the population of the cumulative effect of all the poisons being
used.

It seems to me that the easiest and cheapest way is to go the poison route.
Understandable 40 years ago.  But now we should look at the costlier and
more difficult ways, to protect the population and environment in the long
run.  There are just way too many people and companies in the country now
releasing poisons into the environment daily to expect there not to be a
cost in lives and quality of life to the people.
