But I believe it is an injustice to label government as "bad" per se instead of focusing on the problems within that government (or part thereof) and fixing it. It creates a distrust where much is unwarranted. We complain a lot about the IRS, but we fail to acknowledge the depth and scope of the problem. E.g. the IRS is HUGE and has a HUGE paperwork trail. What would have been more surprising would be if abuses DID NOT exist. But instead of fixing those problems IMMEDIATELY, a whole bunch of hearings took place to tell everyone what everyone already knew. As of this date, the fixes have been in the minds of politicians and not much else. For every large agency, we can come up with examples of inefficiency and problems, but we rarely focus on how much really works, how it helps us, and how many people actually work in the US govt to accomplish decent goals.
