Writing a real time control

I am trying to write a data aquisition control.

The design I am looking for is a server computer on the internet with
a listening socket and has capability to service many clients. The
services it is to provide is port 80 web page service and port n
(maybe 8000) to service my real time control.

This is what I want:
The way I want a typical client computer to work is instantiate "one"
DLL which will talk realtime protocol to the server. Then the user
will pull up a webpage with many activex (or java beans, whichever the
case may be) controls on it which will talk to the "one" DLL.

This is what I have:
Each activex control grabs his own socket to talk to the server, this
has proven to be wastefull.

Is my "want" client scenario even possible. I am using Visual C++
right now, and have trudged through all the MSDN sample apps, and only
have found a minimal chatter/chatsvr where I was able to ascertain
some of the tricks necessary to do the communication ( I found
CAsyncSockets to be more useful).

If anyone knows of some good sample code on the net, I would be much
appreciative, or even a good link to a tech article on how to do this.
the main thing I am interested in the the communication between the
one and only DLL and the OCX instances. Can I use a static function
to accomplish this?

Thanks for any help.
