I am in San Diego and work for a software company.

I am more interested in quality software production than any subject.

My future plans are to be in a position where software is created in the
best possible environment of quality and cooperation.

Write me if you have any information that will interest me or if your goals
are similar.

If you are interested in learning about software quality or in working
in that field you should check out the body of knowledge for the
ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer exam on the ASQ Software
Division web site http://www.asq.org/about/divtech/softdiv/swqweb.html

The Exam covers the following areas:
   1.General Knowledge, Conduct and Ethics
   2.Software Quality Management
   3.Software Processes
   4.Software Project Management
5.Software Metrics, Measurement and Analytical Methods
6.Software Inspection, Testing, Verification and Validation
   7.Software Audits
   8.Software Configuration Management

PS. This certification has helped me be taken more seriously as a
quality professional rather than just as a developer with a bunch of
ideals :-)

The Software Engineering Institute (government funded Researh and
development) benchmarkes successful (and less so) software companies in
the 80s, performed a redaction analysis on the data and determined the
key practices for a quality software process. These practices were
grouped together by common fuinction, and prioritized based on their
pre-requisite relationships. This information is documented in the
capability maturity model (SEI CMM). Do not be lead astray that it is a
cookbook to developing software (this is the most common mis-use) but
it WILL help you prioritize your improvement efforts and prompt you to
address areas you might have missed. THey can be found www.se.cmu.edu.

A must have book for this exercise is "Managing the Software Process" by
Watts Humphrey.

Also, Comp.software-eng, comp.software.testing, and
comp.software.testing shoudl be added to your list.

Good Luck!
