PhD Scholarship
Department of Artificial Intelligence
School of Computer Science and Engineering,
University of New South Wales, Sydney
Australia
Term: for up to 3 years
Stipend: approximately $Aus 22,000 per year
A doctoral scholarship is available in the area of satellite data
processing and interpretation and is aimed at the
development of semi-automatic and automatic
tools for data acquisition from remotely sensed data. The project,
supported by a grant from the
Australian Research Council, concerns the development of data
acquisition tools based on knowledge-based and machine learning
techniques for locating linear features such as roads, buildings
and tracks on large scale aerial photography and high resolution
satellite images. Extracted information is to be used to update
medium and small scale mapping databases and Geographic Information
Systems. The doctoral project will focus on combining human ability
to interpret images with the capabilities of computer based systems
to define features in images rapidly and accurately.
Applicants should have interest, or be willing to get involved, in
one or more
of the following areas:
- satellite image processing
- computer vision and Artificial Intelligence
- computer graphics and user interface design
The project is joint between the Schools of Computer Science and
Engineering and of Geomatic Engineering at the University of New South
Wales,
Sydney, NSW 2052, Australia.
The successful applicant will enrol in the PhD program in the School
of Computer Science and Engineering, and will have access to resources
in both schools.
