Many sites are calling MHSnet nodes via Annex terminal servers using "cooked" mode (escaping 8-bit bytes to use 7-bit printing chars) -- as the default circuits provided by Annex servers usually attempt to interpret the data stream. Thanks to some detective work by George Michaelson of UQ, it appears relatively easy to get 8-bit RAW circuits through Annex terminal servers to UNIX hosts, *without* the UNIX administrator having to reconfigure anything in the Annex (a horrible task :-). Sites calling via Annex terminal servers merely need to add the following sequence to their MHSnet call-script before using the Annex "connect" command to get to the UNIX host: write "stty attn none -imask7 break\r"; -- Computer Science, Sydney University, Madsen Bldg F09, Sydney NSW 2006 Phone: +61 2 692 3423 Fax: +61 2 692 3838
