We had installed a new revision of the ftp daemon (for about a week).
This version had prospero support which gave us increased functionality, but
with a performance problem on a busy machine (as plaza is wont to be).
It also necessitated using a cut down version of 'ls'.

We've reverted to the old version of the ftpd for now until these problems
can be sorted out.  (i.e. it should be the closest/quickest source for
a *lot* of things, so use it :-).
