I will point out that this is a new component of Adaptec and that whatever the corporate resources, this s/w development functions on its own budget with its own staff, etc. We are not dealing here with Microsoft putting its resources behind a major software relase; of course, we're also not dealing with Jeff working his wonders in his garage (or wherever). > True, the burns are decent. Indeed, a gracious admission. Seriously, the burn engine is robust, a property no other product can offer. Yes, one must set up one's system correctly. No, the most advanced functions are not facilitated, but the product is engineered extremely well for its purpose. > But I find the user interface to be clumsy and amateurish. Far from ideal in some respects - I too have taken them to task for 'hiding' functions that should be visible. However, IMHO it is both superior to its antecedents and clearly evolving toward a fully satisfactory design. > Wave editing should be built in; but the wave editing capabilities supplied with ECDC are > inflexible and plain buggy (often, after spending some time working with a > wave you get a GP). I have not had that experience - but, then, I haven't had much luck using the WAV editors in other authoring programs. There is an argument that one should give the editor the power of, say, CoolEdit. Another says it shouldn't be there at all. If you don't like Adaptec's option, I suspect that it will be killed before it would be beefed up as much as you are suggesting. And I haven't found the competition's Spin Doctor implementation better than Adaptec's - probably because I haven't found the competition's Spin Doctor. I.e., 'It doesn't split the tracks where I wsih'; 'It takes too much HD space'; etc. do not apply where the function is missing altogether. > Well, I'm not going to go on about it, but I don't > find Adaptec's work on ECDC to be anything exceptional.... Good luck finding something better - especially find something you would recommend to a newbie in CD-R. Mike mrichter@mindspring.com http://mrichter.simplenet.com CD-R http://resource.simplenet.com
