The one I'm using now is very well made. I've thrown away all the paperwork, but it's the Dick Smith Powerhouse unit, next size down from the 7 dB. They offered it to me for $60 - well below the marked price (a slow selling item). > I will search for those Extended Range, and Enhanced Extended > Range. Do you think I can find some easily ? I don't know for certain where any are at the moment. Look for large-diameter circles on the coverage maps - that's a fair indicator. Vodafone may have used ER or EER cells as part of their major highway coverage contract, but I haven't been out to have a good look around yet. > I knew about the CDMA but I have a GSM and though I could buy a > CDMA for the country trips. > Usually a good high gain is enough to ensure some sort of > quality and when there is no reception at all well, it is time > to get a public phone or ask a CDMA guy ;-) There's plenty of marginal coverage areas within the GSM TA range where a good external antenna makes all the difference. For people who need to be contactable, they can open up the possibilities in terms of campsites. John
