Second Call for Papers
First PRICAI Workshop on AI & Telecommunications: Theory and Practice
26 August 1996
Cairns, Australia
Description of Workshop
This workshop will run in conjunction with the 1996 Pacific Rim Conference
on Artificial Intelligence (PRICAI'96) held in Cairns, Australia.
The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers from universities,
telecommunications providers and suppliers to discuss the use of artificial
intelligence techniques for telecommunications. The emphasis of the workshop
will be to bridge the gap between theoretical artificial intelligence and
how it can be successfully applied to solve real-world problems in the
domain of telecommunications. In particular, the workshop will provide
sessions on emerging AI technologies that are of relevance to
telecommunications, and innovative telecommunication applications that
make use of AI techniques.
We especially want to encourage submissions in areas such as neural networks,
distributed artificial intelligence, software agents and natural language
understanding. In particular, the emphasis of the workshop will be on new
techniques that demonstrate both their relevance to important problems in
telecommunications, and their advantages over existing techniques.
Applications that are relevant to the workshop include all areas of
telecommunication operations and services. In the area of telecommunciation
operations, relevant topics include the design, monitoring and
reconfiguration of networks, fault diagnosis, workforce scheduling, and
customer support. We also encourage papers on topics related to new
telecommunication services that use AI. This can include areas such as
natural language access to services, user modelling and market analysis,
information retrieval and directory services, and mobile information services.
Duration of workshop: 1 full day
